Statement of Solidarity
A Statement of Solidarity
with our siblings in Christ at Westminster Presbyterian Church of Minneapolis, Minnesota
We, the Session of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Charlottesville, Virginia, declare our solidarity with our siblings in Christ at Westminster Presbyterian Church of Minneapolis as they seek to minister to the most vulnerable targets of federal immigration enforcement and those impacted by violent assaults on the people of Minnesota by agencies of the federal government.
We commend that congregation’s statement, A Call to Courageous Love, to our congregation, to people of faith in our community and the nation, and to our public officials.
Furthermore, we commit to responding to that Call to Courageous Love, not only with our words, but our actions. Specifically, we will encourage our members and all people of faith to:
· Contribute financially to the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Minneapolis, in support of its ministries to those who are most profoundly impacted by the disruption, violence, and terror being inflicted upon that community. Go to: https://www.westminstermpls.org, or @mplsmutualaid | Linktree, a link to multiple groups, organizations, and agencies helping their neighbors.
· Press upon our elected officials the urgency of taking meaningful action to hold federal agencies (Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Customs and Border Patrol, and Department of Homeland Security) accountable for compliance with the United States Constitution, specifically the First, Fourth, and Fourteen Amendments, and to guarantee those rights to both citizens and non-citizens.
· Join with other members of our community in standing with our immigrant neighbors, working for their welfare and safety whenever they are under threat.
