On Earth Day this past April Westminster dedicated its new solar panel array which consist of 57 solar panels positioned on the roof above our church kitchen and nursery.
During its first five months of operation we have generated 5,910 kilowatt hours of electricity from the panels. This non-fossil fuel power is the equivalent of saving 3,121 kg of CO2 emissions from the environment or eliminating 13,046 miles of driving. We have on brief occasions provided for all of our electrical needs in the Fellowship Hall and Education Building through our solar panels and sold electricity back to Dominion Energy over each of the past three months (17 kilowatt hours in August, 14 kwh in September, and 10 kwh in October). While our financial savings have been less than anticipated over this period, we have made a positive contribution to the environment by generating this portion of our power from “green” sources.
