Session approved the following benevolences in October 2017 at the request of the Benevolence Committee.
Sin Barreras (Without Borders)
This local ministry has requested support for reapplication fees for current DACA recipients, and the funds will support up to four applications, if needed. If not actually needed for scholarships, the funds will go toward ongoing ministry to the local Hispanic immigrant population.
IMPACT (Interfaith Movement Promoting Action by Congregations Together)
Westminster has been a partner church since the beginning of IMPACT, and is continuing its participation while rebuilding its activity within the Westminster congregation.
Frontera de Cristo
Frontera is a border ministry in the Nogales, AZ region, on both sides of the border, and hosted a mission trip in 2016. A possible return trip in early 2018 is being considered.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance
This is the national church’s disaster assistance arm, and the needs are ever with us.
Seeds Of Justice
This is a new initiative of the Mission and Outreach Division, encouraging members to initiate projects or interest groups around social justice ministry. Money could help support bus rentals to marches, facility rental, speaker fees or travel, etc. The fund will be publicized throughout the congregation, and it is anticipated a larger amount will be made available next year.
