In Our World

In fulfilling our mission to share God’s love and work for justice in a complex world,  the congregation engages in the work of social justice and peacemaking in our world.  As part of our commitment to Presbyterian-sponsored mission projects we participate in three special offerings:

  • One Great Hour of Sharing, on Easter, to share God’s love with people in need and, through these gifts, help others around the world find hope for a brighter future.
  • The Birthday Offering, in the summer, celebrates the work of women in our denomination by collecting funds each year to support projects worldwide designated for special assistance.
  • The Peacemaking Offering, in October, supports a variety of efforts at our local level as well as at the Presbytery and General Assembly levels dedicated to the work of justice and peace in our world.

Read more about special offerings.

Much of our local peace and justice work expands beyond our own borders, but Westminster also partners with many local, national and international organizations and mission projects through benevolence giving and grant making.  Recent partners and recipients have included: The Alliance for Interfaith Ministry (AIM), Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Charlottesville Free Clinic, Piedmont Housing Alliance, Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA), Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), International Rescue Committee (IRC), Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Community Mediation Center of Charlottesville, Innisfree Village, Shelter for Help in Emergency (SHE), Charlottesville Dental Access, Center for Restorative Justice, Hospice of the Piedmont, Bangkok YMCA’s Child Rescue Program, Region Ten’s Blue Ridge House, Virginia Organizing and others.
