April 9th Palm Sunday
With palm branches waving, children and adults processing, and everyone singing, “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna,” we begin the journey of Holy Week. Palm Sunday begins with a joyful parade and ends at the Cross. The crowds standing along the parade route could not imagine the events that would take place that week—betrayal, trial, death, abandonment, an empty tomb, The Resurrection. Service at 8:30 and 11:00.
April 13 Maundy Thursday
At 6:00 PM, friends and family join together in the Fellowship Hall for a simple meal. Like the first disciples who once gathered to break bread, we do the same. This will be informal time for us to connect and enjoy each other’s company. Then starting at 7:00 in the sanctuary, we will enter to see the disciples gathered around a common table. We’ll see what transpires in The Garden of Gethsemane and witness Jesus’ betrayal and arrest. Finally, we will ponder together his death on the cross. Like a living fresco painted on a cathedral wall, WPC youth will portray Jesus’ final days.
April 14 Good Friday
At 6:00 PM, we gather in the sanctuary in silent reverence to hear Jesus’ final words on the cross. This will be a brief service of song, prayer, reflection, candle lighting, and listening to the chiming of the bell, 33 times symbolizing each year of Jesus’ life. We leave in silent reflection.
