Associate Pastor Nominating Committee
Winston Barham is a music librarian and book historian at the University of Virginia and grew up in a Mississippi Methodist preacher’s family. He has participated in Westminster’s music ministries since 1999 and has served on the Westminster Organ Concert Series Board. He has worked with Children, Youth, and Adult Education and served on Session in the classes of 2005, 2008, and 2018. He will soon attend the General Assembly of the PCUSA as a commissioner from the Presbytery of the James.
Taylor Beard has been a member of Westminster since 1965. Taylor was an engineering faculty member at UVa until his retirement in 2006. Early on, his Westminster experiences included serving as a senior high advisor, Sunday school teacher, and a deacon. Since then, he has served a couple of terms as an elder and as a member of two Campus Minister Nominating committees. For a number of years has been the local coordinator of the annual Charlottesville CROP Hunger Walk. He is the treasurer of Clergy and Laity United for Justice and Peace. He is married to Kathie Beard and is the father of Rosemary Heflin and Jim David Beard.
Susie Bruce joined Westminster in 1989 when she was a UVA student. She has served the church in a variety of roles over the years including as a member of the Christian Education and University Mission Committees, high school youth group leader, kindergarten and Rite-13 Church School teacher, nursery volunteer, sound system operator and member of the adult choir. Since 2000, she has directed the UVA Gordie Center for Substance Abuse Prevention. She is married to Dan Miller and the mother of Will and Matt Miller.
Kathy Redding became a member of WPC in 1993. Since her retirement as a small business owner and Agent for Xerox Corporation, Kathy has volunteered for Good News Jail & Prison Ministry and is currently Chair of the Chaplaincy Support Team at our regional jail. She has been a Shepherd for the Choristers, coordinator of communion preparers and a PACEM volunteer. She is married to Dick and they have four adult children and eight grandchildren.
Heather Warren came to Charlottesville in 1991 for graduate school in landscape architecture. She’s been a member of Westminster since 1998 and has served as an elder and on various committees, including, presently, the Worship Committee and the Library Committee. For the last six years she’s worked for the Office of Undergraduate Admission at UVA. She’s married to Joe Atkins, is the mother of Hope and Helen Atkins, and the daughter of Hope and Dave Warren, also members of Westminster.
Ron Wiley, Jr., began attending Westminster as a UVA undergraduate in the late 1970s. He was active in the University student fellowship and married Gail Hyder at Westminster in 1980. After he graduated from law school in 1983, Ron and Gail returned to Charlottesville and joined Westminster. Ron has served as a Trustee and three terms as a Ruling Elder. Ron has served on Session and chaired the Worship & Music Division and served on the Nominating Committee. He also served on and chaired the Personnel Committee and became Stated Clerk. Most recently, he chaired the University Mission Committee from 2014 to 2017, after being on the committee for several years.
Ken Young has been a member of Westminster for approximately 18 years. Ken and Laura have been long time residents of Charlottesville and are pleased to call it home. His work experiences have been varied, but for the most part, he has worked for Non Profit organizations that served people with disabilities, in addition to assisting Aid and Relief organizations. He’s very proud of his international upbringing and feels that it has broadened his spiritual growth and journey as a Christian. Westminster has been a wonderful church home to his family and the special people here have been a true blessing in our lives.
