Dear UKirk Community,
What a gift it has been to witness you all individually and together this semester. You have wrestled with the challenging and beautiful demands of following Jesus. You have shown up for each other and for the community. You have stood in solidarity with people fighting for justice. You yourselves have shown up and fought for justice. You have created a beautiful community by enjoying time together, listening to one another, dancing together, laughing together, and always inviting and welcoming others. You have been faithful to who God is calling you to be, through your studies, through your music, through your art, through your love of animals, through your love of nature, through your pursuit of service. You have grown in your faith, through all of these things, and helped others to grow, through your questions, through sharing your experiences, through teaching Sunday School and leading children in worship and music. You have remained present and engaged, even when it was painful and hard. You have mourned with those who mourn, prayed for the vulnerable and suffering, the sick and dying, remembered the marginalized and those in prison. You have been generous with your time, resources and creativity.
As you go home this Christmas, and the our troubled world continues to produce headlines that are urgent and loud, I pray that you will receive the Love of God, whose name is Jesus, and hold on to that love. It is the love that opens the heart of a young woman to bring life and love into the world. It is the love that leads a vulnerable family into a foreign land and provides through the kindness of strangers. It is the love that guides those who are searching for a Living Hope in the dark night. It is a love that speaks wisdom to those living in a kingdom of violence and gives them courage to make a new way. It is a love that is powerful in weakness and humanity.
Here is a song I composed to meditate on all of these things as well and when you listen, remember you were created by this same Love and it will keep you all the days of your life.
