What an honor and privilege it was for me to carry your prayers to Standing Rock last week. It was a profound and historical gathering and I cannot wait to share more about it with you on Sunday. Of course now we are carrying the aftermath of the presidential election too. I have been meditating on the lectionary this week and writing my sermon with all of these things in my heart and mind. Like the world, the scripture this week seems to contradict itself. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus speaks with apocalyptic vision about a world of strife, violence and betrayal. In Isaiah, the prophet shares an oracle of restoration and a vision of the earth being made new. What I see and know is that both of these worlds exist, one on top of the other, in the time these scriptures were written and right now. I also know that it is a week we need to draw close as a community, to find light and life together. I look forward to worship on Sunday!
