The Older Adult Ministry Fall Retreat, to be held on September 28 at Camp Hanover. There is an attachment of the brochure and registration form if anyone is interested.
Greetings to all Westminster Folks!
The Membership Committee of Westminster is looking for GREETERS to welcome visitors (and members) when they come to church on Sunday mornings.
As a GREETER, you will welcome everyone as they enter the church. One of the most important things to do is offer to accompany visitors to the Gathering Place, or direct them to a Sunday School class or nursery after the 8:30 service is over.
In addition to your name tag, GREETERS will wear a white flower found on the table in the Narthex. Please return it after the service.
GREETERS will stand outside each entrance except in case of inclement weather, when they will stand inside with the ushers.
There will be only one usher at the arcade entrance at the 11:00 service and the summer 10:00 services. With only three ushers, one of the GREETERS (either one) will be the 4th person to take up the offering.
Each GREETER should have Several Welcome Bags with him/her at the door to give to FIRST-TIME visitors when they enter the church. Bags will be already prepared and placed on top of the tall chest in the Gathering Place. They will include trifolds telling about worship, music, Christian Education, and other programs at Westminster, as well as two Peppermint Patties with a note that reads, “You are Mint to be Here”. If you need more bags than were prepared, there are more bags and all the material in the top left drawer of the chest. Please return any unused bags to the top of the chest in the Gathering Place.
For the 8:30 service, please arrive about 10 minutes early. For the 10:00 or 11:00 service, please arrive about 20 minutes early.
If you are willing to be a Greeter and have not been one before, please respond to , giving me your email address and/or phone number so that the committee can be in touch when we need Greeters.

On Sunday, August 27 you are invited to our final summer concert to benefit PACEM (People and Congregations Engaged in Ministry). The concert will take place in the Sanctuary at 4:00 pm followed by ice cream in the courtyard. Soprano Megan Sharp, with Jonathan Schakel on piano, will present a program entitled, “Songs My Father Taught Me,” featuring songs by Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert, Gabriel Fauré, Joaquín Rodrigo, and folk songs arranged by Benjamin Britten. Megan’s late father, Stuart Sharp, was a professor of voice at Hope College and her first voice teacher. This program is a tribute to his guidance and great love of art songs.
WPC took first place in the Omega League!! Let’s congratulate the team.
As you are aware, the City’s construction project at 17th Street and Virginia Avenue continues to have a messy impact on the church’s lower parking lot. This project is to install a large water line under the railroad track and connecting with Chancellor Street. The completed project will provide additional water capacity and control water pressure fluctuations in the area water system necessary due to new construction in various locations near the church.
The contractor has completed the tunneling under the railroad track and has installed the 8″ diameter water pipe in the portion in the railroad right-of-way. now the work is to fill and compact a three story deep pit at either end and connect the pipe to the existing water supply system. Only one week remains before the UVA students will be back. We will be surprised if the project is complete by them, but we hope they are close!
We apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing in accessing the church parking lot and in the disruption of parking availability on the street and in our lot. Please be extra cautious as you navigate around the construction.
