On Sunday, April 2, at 4 pm, the Westminster Organ Concert Series presents “Monteverdi at 450,” a concert in celebration of the 450th anniversary of the birth of Claudio Monteverdi, the revolutionary composer who changed the course of music history. The early music vocal ensemble Zephyrus, directed by Megan Sharp, will be featured in a program which includes the stunning Missa in illo tempore, Monteverdi’s masterpiece of traditional Renaissance counterpoint, as well as several of his finest motets. Zephyrus will be joined by the Washington Cornett and Sackbutt Ensemble, a group of historic brass instrument specialists based in Washington, D.C., as well as by baroque violins and organ.
This free concert will be held in Westminster’ sanctuary. There will be a reception following the concert. For more information please contact Jonathan Schakel at 434-963-4690 or visit http://www.westminsterorganconcertseries.org.
