Resilience and Redemption: Japanese Internment During World War II. Violette Takahashi, the mother of Nancy Takahashi, was a second-generation Japanese American teenage growing up in Seattle, Washington on December 7, 1941. She will talk about the hardship she and her husband experienced in the aftermath of the attack, when Japanese-Americans were classified as the enemy and imprisoned in internment camps or forced to relocate. Gregg Bleam is an award-winning Landscape Architect practicing in Charlottesville. He will be speaking about his involvement with the team designing a memorial garden to be built on the lawn across from the UVA Corner recognizing the Enslaved Individuals who built and sustained the University in its early years.
