Do you consider yourself a friendly person? Do you enjoy getting to know new people? Do you like to make people feel welcome and included? If your answers are affirmative, then please consider serving as a “First Friend“ to a new member who will be joining WPC this spring!
As you know, the month of March is now upon us. Sunday classes for prospective new members are running from March 12th through April 2nd. Those wishing to join the church will meet with Session on April 9th and be received in worship soon thereafter. If last fall is any indication, we can look forward to a large group of new members joining us this spring.
Hence this call from the Membership Committee for volunteers to serve as First Friends to all our anticipated new members! We are hoping to compile a master list of current members (teaching elders, too) who might be interested. Couples may sign up to befriend a new member couple as well.
What is involved? –just being that special church friend who helps a new member become familiar with our church’s programs and activities, and assists the new member in becoming integrated into church life. This may include extending an invitation to sit with you and your family for worship or to go with you to the Gathering Place to meet others during Coffee Hour, meeting for the adult lunch or an organ concert, or anything else you might want to do. A major time commitment is not anticipated.
If being a First Friend to a new member sounds like something you would enjoy, please contact anyone on the Membership Committee—Billie Best, Dana Eastman, Carolyn Kelly, Nadine Roddy, or Debbie Wolfe—and we will gladly add your name to our list. Many thanks!
