Emergency Food Bank: Each summer, as the Food Bank's shelves become depleted, we conduct a Summer Food Drive and collect bags of groceries to help re-stock this vital community resource.

The Westminster Child Care Center. As part of our commitment to children, for over thirty years we have provided space in our building -including the playground and a number of rooms - for the operation of this fully licensed and accredited child care facility. WCCC serves a wide cross-section of the community with genuine concern and full-time quality care for children of ages six weeks to six years. Fees are based on a sliding scale and scholarships are available for low-income families. Volunteers are often needed. Call the Westminster Child Care Center, 977-3322, for more information.

As part of our commitment to groups in the community, we offer the use of our buildings for many community meetings and events.

Opening Doors: Westminster is working to eliminate the physical and attitudinal barriers that prevent persons with disabilities from participating fully in the life of the church. As part of our commitment to people with disabilities, we offer: Opening Doors - in Ministry with Disabled Neighbors The ministry of Opening Doors is coordinated by a volunteer board working with specific congregations and local social service agencies. Activities include organizing special church school classes, arranging transportation to church services, hosting social events, and encouraging advocacy for the interest of persons with mental and physical disabilities.

The Church and Sexuality Committee: seeks to welcome all people, regardless of sexual orientation, into the life of the congregation. The Session of Westminster has made a commitment to become an inclusive, caring congregation.

The Alternative Christmas Fair, an annual event held in our Fellowship Hall, provides an opportunity for local non-profit groups and international organizations that support justice-based cottage industries to sell their crafts and goods.

Counseling Those in Need
Our congregation opens its doors to help those in need by providing a way for troubled individuals and families to receive counseling and care. We are pleased that we became a sponsoring a partner of the Pastoral Counseling Services of Central Virginia in June of 2009. This nonprofit counseling service has forty years of experience in Central Virginia. The Rev. Diana C. Brawley, an ordained presbyterian minister and member of the Presbytery of the James, sees those in need of counseling in a confidential setting within our church by appointment. If you or someone you know is interested in more information please call Diana at (434) 987-6097 or visit her website: http://www.dianabrawley.com.
