 The Mission Trip Planning Committee

The Mission Trip Committee serves as a conduit to facilitate and promote adult, inter-generational, and university student mission trips. Specifically, the Committee:

  •    serves as a resource for individuals and groups interested in a mission trip, helping to find location and funding.
  •    communicates with and promotes Presbytery of the James District 1 Mission Team trips.
  •    plans long term (a year or two in advance) in order to promote a variety of mission opportunities and participants.
  •    make recommendations to Session for approval when mission trips meet the established criteria.
In January 2010, Westminster plans on taking 20 people (church members and UVA students) to San Mateo Ixtatán, Gautemala to help build additions to a school with the Ixtatán Foundation (link to their web site here.)

Below are photos from a trip to Reynosa Mexico in 2007 sponsored by the churches of District 1 of the Presbytery of the James.  See the captions and below for more information.

In summer 2007, a group of adults and students from high school and college from area congregations went to Reynosa, Mexico to build a small, but sturdy concrete house for a Mexican family. District One sponsors this mission trip by purchasing supplies and coordinating volunteers to attend. District One partners with Ministerio de Fe/Faith Ministries in McAllen, TX which builds about 100 homes per year for extremely impoverished Mexican families. Faith Ministries works with many churches throughout the US to build these homes.
