IMPACT Justice Team
Interfaith Movement Promoting Action by Congregations Together
Westminster is a charter member of IMPACT, an association of 30 congregations and faith groups working to address social justice issues in the Charlottesville/Albemarle community. Membership includes Protestants, Catholics, Unitarians, Jews and Muslims of diverse economic, racial and ethnic backgrounds. IMPACT seeks input from all member groups on significant issues to be addressed, such as mass transit, affordable housing, health care and education; organizes research groups to study local needs and focus on achievable goals; and then marshals mass support to encourage local community leaders to facilitate change. The Westminster IMPACT committee chaired by Cheryl Oliver (286-9941) and Steve Wilson (973-2194) coordinates church participation in three major events a year, an Assembly in October to select focus issues for the year, a Rally in February to build support for proposed change and a mass Nehemiah Action meeting in March to encourage local leaders to support IMPACT proposals.
